VC-backed GetYourGuide acquires Gidsy
GetYourGuide, a portfolio company of Profounders Capital, Spark Capital and Highland Capital Partners Europe, has acquired Berlin-based Gidsy, a peer-to-peer platform backed by Sunstone Capital, Index Ventures and private investors.
Following the merger, GetYourGuide will integrate Gidsy's marketplace of local cultural experiences into its own online portal for tours and activities on getyourguide.com. Gidsy's team will also join the Swiss company, which has further offices in Berlin and Las Vegas. The VCs invested in Gidsy will hold stakes in GetYourGuide following the merger.
Spark and Highland backed GetYourGuide, an online booking platform for tours, attractions and activities, with $14m in January this year to fund the company's expansion plans.
The business previously raised $2m from Profounders and other investors in March 2012. It has also been backed by Zürcher Kantonalbank and the Swiss government's innovation promotion agency CTI since 2009.
Gidsy received a $1.2m seed funding round from Sunstone, Index, former Nielsen Entertainment CEO Peter Read, Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher and Amazon CTO Werner Vogels in January 2012.

Gidsy was founded in Berlin in 2011. The business offers an online marketplace where travellers can discover, offer and book experiences in around 140 cities across 40 countries.
