HTGF et al. invest €2.6m in Rodos BioTarget
High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), InvestImpuls-Fonds and KfW’s ERP Start Fund have invested €2.6m of growth capital in German biotech company Rodos BioTarget, alongside private investors and family offices.
The investment from HTGF et al. has additional optional payments attached for further milestones in 2013. Rodos will use the funding to finance its product's entry into clinical trials in order to establish the delivery of active agents and vaccines for antigen-presenting cells.
Rodos previously received funding from HTGF and Hannover Innovation Fonds (HFI) in May 2009 for the validation of its platform nanotechnology, TargoSphere.
Company
Rodos is a biotech company based in Hanover. The business was founded in 2008 and has developed a nanotechnology platform called TargoSphere for the targeted delivery of therapeutically active agents to antigen-presenting cells.
Based on TargoSphere, the business currently develops an antiviral therapy (TargoVir) against Hepatitis C and HIV/AIDS, as well as an antibacterial approach (TargoBiotics) for newly developed applications, including pulmonary infections. The company employs two permanent staff as well as additional scientists and experts as and when required.
Rodos already generates a turnover in the low six-digit numbers from its technology platform, which is set to increase once the platform is IMPD certified. The company still runs at an overall loss.
