Babbel raises $22m series-C
Scottish Equity Partners has led a $22m funding round for German language-learning app Babbel.
The round was also supported by existing investors Reed Elsevier Ventures, Nokia Growth Partners and VC Fonds Technology Berlin. Babbel has been profitable since 2011 and currently registers 120,000 downloads per day. The company plans to use the capital increase for its expansion across the Americas.

Founded in 2007, Babbel is a subscription-based language-learning app. Its Berlin and New York offices employ 350 people. It currently offers 14 languages for users to learn and the app is displayed in seven languages.
People
Markus Witte is founder and CEO of Babbel. Stuart Paterson is a partner at Scottish Equity Partners and will join Babbel's board of directors.
