Cinven-backed Tractel bolts on Scanclimber
Cinven-backed lifting equipment manufacturer Tractel has acquired Finland-based Scanclimber, a manufacturer of mast-climbing work platforms.
The combined group's EBITDA is projected to be €50m, according to a source familiar with the transaction.
In addition to the bolt-on, Cinven also completed a full refinancing of Tractel led by BNP Paribas, HSBC and Crédit Agricole CIB. The debt package entails €320m worth of financing lines, the source said.
With the acquisition, Tractel intends to strategically strengthen its Nordic presence with a set of Nordic customers and a local management team, in addition to its existing distribution base.
Cinven bought Tractel from LBO France in 2015. Scanclimber marks the third acquisition that the business has made since the acquisition, following US-based Safety Products Group and Turkey-based Knot.
Founded in 1941, Tractel provides fall-protection and lifting equipment. Its main products include the Tirak and Minifor hoists, electronic load indicator Dynafor, and a range of anti-fall safety devices. Headquartered in Saint Hilaire sous Romilly, the business sells its products via a network of 8,000 distributors across 120 countries.
Previous funding
In June 2008, Finnish Industry Investment structured an expansion funding round for Scanclimber, formerly known as Skywalk. The funding amounted to €800,000.
In December 2011, Finnish Industry Investment sold its stake in Scanclimber.
Company
Established in 1983 and headquartered in Pirkkala, Finland, Scanclimber is a manufacturer of personnel and material hoists, as well as mast-climbing work platforms. It sells its products through a network of distributors and sales agents globally.
