Carlyle considering IPO for Applus
After an aggressive acquisition strategy, Carlyle is understood to be considering an initial public offering of Applus, a multi-industry testing, inspection and certification services firm.
The company is thought to be planning a listing in Madrid or London next year, taking advantage of rising stock markets.
Carlyle bought the firm in 2007 in a deal with an enterprise value of €1.48bn.
Having set aside an initial €450m for strategic acquisitions in 2008, the company has bolted-on several firms while under Carlyle's stewardship. Acquisitions include that of EDI in Feburary 2013, BTI in July 2011, Velosi at the end of 2010, Contrôles Techniques Services and Ekopol in 2009 and NDTI in 2008.
Last year, the company reported EBITDA of €171m, up 22% on the previous year. The firm's services have enjoyed increased demand following a recent rise in disasters such as oil spillages and growing environmental awareness.
