
Alpha's Savio bolts on Mesdan
Savio Macchine Tessili, a textile machinery producer owned by Alpha, has acquired a controlling stake in yarn splicing devices firm Mesdan.
Savio Macchine Tessili's acquisition of Mesdan is valued in excess of €20m, and was funded with the support of Alpha.
Mesdan will retain its autonomy following the acquisition.
Alpha bought Savio from Itema Holding in 2011, a deal thought to be worth around €300m. The GP provided between €130-140m of equity for the deal. A debt structure was provided by a syndicate of banks led by Intesa Sanpaolo.
Company
Founded in 1952 and based in Raffa di Puegnano, Mesdan produces yarn splicing devices. The company has several patents in the field of air and water joint technology, and has diversified its activities into textile laboratory instruments.
Mesdan has a direct presence in China and a subsidiary in India. The company reported a turnover close to €40m in 2011 and employs around 84 members of staff.
