Seguranza leads series-A round for Aquilón
Seguranza has led a €2m series-A funding round for veterinary services and products producer Aquilón CyL.
The regional investor will inject €1.5m into the firm, to be completed in three tranches by 2014.
The management team and project researchers also co-invested in the round. State-backed foundation Genoma España provided a loan of €430,000 through its Innocash programme.
The capital injection will underpin the development and licensing of a vaccine against porcine dysentery, a probiotic product to replace antibiotics to treat porcine digestive problems and a vaccine for respiratory diseases.
Seguranza FCR is a €36.1m regional fund managed by Clave Mayor. The vehicle invests in companies based in Castilla y Leon and operating in the IT and communication, life sciences, energy and industry sectors.
Company
Aquilón spun out of the University of León in March 2012. The firm develops and produces vaccines and probiotics to combat intestinal and respiratory diseases affecting the porcine family.
The company intends to raise a further €3m in the coming year to support the development and licensing of its three key products.
People
Francisco Armero is director of Clave Mayor and worked on the transaction. Dr Pedro Rubio, professor of infectious diseases at the University of León, leads Aquilón's management team.
