
Caixa Capital Risc leads €1.1m round for iMicroQ
Caixa Capital Risc has led a €1.1m funding round for Spanish biotech firm iMicroQ.
The VC backed iMicroQ through its sector-specific vehicle Caixa Capital BioMed.
A group of business angels also committed capital to the funding round, which will support the production and marketing of a salmonella detection kit.
Company
Founded in 2010 as a spinout from the Rovira i Virgili University, iMicroQ develops technology and products for the safety of agriculturally-produced food and clinical diagnosis.
The company specialises in the development of a rapid detection kit for salmonella, which can be used on site and detects the bacteria in less than 24 hours. Existing products require 24 hours in order to diagnose salmonella contamination.
The company has 15 members of staff and hopes to reach a turnover of €7m by 2016.
