Riverside-backed Summit Medical Group acquires Orthomed
Riverside has acquired French medical equipment designer Orthomed as a bolt-on for its portfolio company Summit Medical Group.
Attracted by Orthomed's commitment to innovation, Riverside believes the bolt-on will strengthen Summit's product portfolio, reinforcing its R&D capabilities and providing an entry point into emerging markets like Brazil. Riverside also expects strong growth for the orthopaedics market due to current social and demographic trends.
The Riverside Company acquired designer and producer of medical devices Summit Medical Group from Graphite Capital in 2008, for £36m enterprise value. An earlier bolt-on in 2010 saw Riverside buy orthopaedic implants and related-products manufacturer Eska Implants for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 1980, Nice-based Orthomed specialises in the development, manufacture and marketing of medical devices for orthopaedic surgery, mainly in the area of implants and ligament fixation devices. Its products are sold across Europe, South America, Asia and Australia.
