Balderton-backed Hut Group acquires Lookfantastic
Online retailer The Hut Group has raised £18.5m from existing investors to finance the £19.4m acquisition of the Lookfantastic Group.
Balderton Capital, Artemis, William Currie Group and ex-Matalan CEO Angus Monro participated in the financing round. The consortium had previously provided The Hut Group with £14m in April 2010.
The acquisiton fits with The Hut Group's strategy of progressively moving into the luxury goods market, particularly the health and beauty sector where Lookfantastic enjoys a strong positioning.
Founded in 1997, Lookfantastic is an online cosmetics retailer based in Hove. It was born out of the Crown's Salon Group, a business founded in 1978. The company sells hair and beauty products for men and women, and also operates 15 hair salons based in London, Sussex and Kent, along with a hairdressing training division.
Lookfantastic posted a £20m turnover and £2.8m EBITDA for 2009.
