3i portfolio company acquires S&D-Group
3i's portfolio company Azelis has acquired specialist ingredients provider S&D-Group for an undisclosed amount.
The investor is planning to improve Azelis' market position in the personal care and pharma sectors in the CEE region and strengthen its Indian distribution business with the acquisition. The investment will also support distribution in China and further the firm's expansion into new markets such as Australia, the Middle East and Africa.
London-based S&D-Group was founded in 1980 and is a specialist supplier of raw materials and and ingredients to the pharmaceutical, food, personal care and performance chemicals industries. The company employs 400 members of staff and has offices in Europe, Russia, India, China, Australia and Canada.
3i bought specialty chemical supplier Azelis in 2007 from Cognetas for €315m. Clifford Chance advised 3i and Azelis on the transaction.
