Morgan Stanley PE and Investcorp in race for Wagamama
Morgan Stanley Private Equity and Investcorp are among the final private equity bidders for Lion Capital-owned restaurant chain Wagamama, according to reports.
AIM-listed India Hospitality Corporation is also rumoured to be bidding for Wagamama. Rothschild is in charge of running the auction process.
The sale could fetch up to £250m. Lion Capital considered floating the business back in 2007 but shelved the plan due to market volatility - a predicament shared by many private equity-backed companies over the past few years.
Lion Capital bought an 88% stake in Wagamama from Graphite Capital in 2005, for £102.5m. The UK-based noodle bar chain has 105 outlets, including 66 in the UK, and employs more than 2,300 people. It posted a £101m turnover for 2008.
