LDC-backed Ultimate Products acquires Japinda divisions
LDC-backed Ultimate Products, the independent product sourcing and design business for hard goods, has acquired the luggage and small leather goods divisions of Japinda Goup for an undisclosed sum.
The deal was financed by the company.
Manchester-based Japinda was founded in 1952 and for over 40 years has manufactured luggage and associated travel goods under the Constellation Luggage brand. It supplies the likes of Argos, Dunnes, Sainsbury's and TJ Hughes.
The acquisition is the third made by Ultimate Products in the last 12 months as it focuses on growing its UK retail relationships.
Under the direction of Ultimate Products' brand director Bernadette Spofforth, the Constellation range will be re-launched and re-designed over the next three months.
Simon Showman founded Ultimate Products in 1997 with partner Barry Franks, who has been a non executive director since 2005. The company's target turnover is £100m and it is looking to achieve this goal by doubling the size of its Hong Kong and mainland China operations.
LDC backed the buyout of Ultimate from Franks and Showman in 2005 in a £26m deal.
