
Octopus Ventures appoints Dr Simon Murdoch
Octopus Ventures has appointed Simon Murdoch as senior investment partner. Murdoch is an internet entrepreneur, investor and the former European vice president of Amazon.com.
He will work alongside Alex Macpherson and his team across the company's portfolio of 25 early-stage venture and growth investments including Graze.com, Zoopla! and GetOptics.
Murdoch founded a bookselling company, Bookpages, in 1996, which was acquired by Amazon.com in 1998. He then launched Amazon.co.uk during his time as vice president Europe. In 2000, as co-founder and partner of Chase Episode 1, Murdoch invested in and advised several early-stage internet investments including Betfair. Since then, he has also been involved with UK technology businesses LoveFilm, Shazam and Shutl.
