Earlybird, Panakés lead €6m round for Alesi Surgical
Venture capital houses Earlybird and Panakés Partners have led a €6m funding round for Cardiff-based Alesi Surgical.
The funding round will allow the company to accelerate the commercialisation of its product, Ultravision, with a focus on the US market. Additionally, the company appointed three directors, including former Molnlycke Healthcare chair Phil Cooper, who will join as non-executive director.
As part of the investment Thom Rasche, a partner at Earlybird, and Alessio Beverina, a founding partner at Panakés, will both join the board as directors.
Company
Founded in 2009 as a spinout from the Welsh Institute for Minimal Access Therapy, Alesi has developed a device called Ultravision that assists with abdominal keyhole surgery. It uses electrostatic technology to clear the vapour and particulate matter – also known as surgical smoke – generated by modern surgical cutting instruments during surgery. The company employs 15 people.
