Horizons injects $3.7m into Roli
Hong Kong-based Horizons Ventures has provided $3.7m in follow-on funding for Roli, a London-based manufacturer of technology-focused musical instruments.
As with the original series-A round, which occurred earlier this year, the investment will fund a recruitment drive and increased production of the company's flagship Seaboard Grand product.
Roli will look to develop the production process for the Seaboard products. It will seek to expand by developing a global supply chain, with the latest investment directed towards its Asian operations.
The Seaboard Grand is a keyboard with a soft continuous surface allowing musicians to employ different musical techniques not usually associated with pianos.
Balderton led the initial $12.8m series-A round for the company in May this year, with participation from Index Ventures, US-based FirstMark Capital and Universal Music. As a result of the Balderton-led deal, the company now has additional operations in New York and east Asia.
Company
London-based Roli produces technology-focused musical instruments. It has distributed the Seaboard Grand across 34 countries and reports waiting lists of up to one year for the product. The company was founded in 2012 and has a headcount of 50.
People
Frances Kang led the investment for Horizons. Roland Lamb is the founder and CEO of Roli. Daniel Waterhouse, a partner at Balderton, has a seat on the board.
