Cambridge Innovation leads £5.4m round for Pragmatic Printing
Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) has led a £5.4m round for Pragmatic Printing, a UK-based producer of ultra-thin flexible microcircuits.
The fresh capital will enable Pragmatic to develop circuits for use in sensors, processors and wireless communications in order to strengthen its offering to companies operating in the 'internet of things' market.
ARM Holdings and various existing shareholders also took part in the round.
The deal marks CIC’s first investment of 2015, having invested around £1m in Congenica, a provider of technology for diagnosing rare genetic diseases in children, in December.
Company
Headquartered in Cambridge, Pragmatic produces micro-circuits, which it states are thinner than a human hair. The circuits can be used for multiple purposes, including intelligent packaging products, wearable technology and traceable security and identification documents.
Pragmatic has a production facility located in the National Centre for Printable Electronics in Sedgefield. The business currently has development partnerships with Procter and Gamble, De La Rue and Hallmark.
People
Victor Christou is senior investment director at ICC. Mike Muller is chief technology officer at ARM. Scott White is CEO at Pragmatic.
