SPAIN - GED-backed Rioglass to increase
GED-backed Rioglass will be developing 4 new facilities in Spain and the US to increase its production of thermosolar mirrors.
Currently the company operates a plant in Lena in Asturias (northwestern Spain) with a capacity to produce 50,000 mirrors a year which have a potential to generate 150 megawatts.
A facility of equal capacity should open its doors during the first quarter 2009, with the US plant, to become operational in the third quarter 2009, able double that production to 100,000 mirrors and 300 MW.
According to reports, the company expects that 30% of the EUR 130m turnover projected for 2008 will come from the sale of parabolic mirrors used in energy generation. The company foresees 50% of its sales originating from this line of business by 2009.
