UK - E-Synergy leads £2m investment into Alternative Waste Solutions
The Sustainable Technology Fund (STF), a cleantech focused venture capital fund managed by E-Synergy, has led a £2m investment into plastic recycling specialist Alternative Waste Solutions (AWS).
E-Synergy contributed £1.5m to the financing, with £400,000 being provided by Northstar Equity Investors through its co-investment fund and the balance coming from a private investor. The investment will be used to underwrite a £14m expansion of AWS's plastic bottle processing plant, creating the largest facility in the world with food grade cabability, able to process up to 100,000 tonnes of mixed plastic bottles annually.
Newcastle-based AWS currently operates the largest and most technically advanced plastic bottle processing plant in UK, with a customer base in both Europe and the Far East. The company was established in 2000 and is profitable.
