VC-backed Delivery Hero acquires Carriage

With the acquisition, Delivery Hero will now expand its brand in the Middle East region.

This is the sixth bolt-on for the Berlin-based online food delivery platform since Insight Ventures and a number of other VC investors backed the company in 2011. Since then, Delivery Hero has raised several rounds, most recently netting $350m in September 2014 in a series-G round involving Insight Venture Partners, Kite Ventures and Vostok Nafta.

Delivery Hero acquired Damejidlo and Jidloted from the Czech Republic and Slovakia in January 2015; it also bought MyLorry in April 2015, pizza.de in August 2014 and point-of-sale app provider 9Cookies in June 2014.

Carriage is an online food ordering and delivery platform based in Kuwait. The company was founded by Abdullah Jihad Almutawa, Musab Jihad Almutawa, Khaled Youssef Alqabandi and Jonathan Lau in 2016.
