Temasek, SIB in $18m series-B for PureLiFi
Temasek and Scottish Investment Bank have invested in an $18m series-B for PureLiFi, a developer of light-enabled data transmission technology.
Temasek (the investment arm of the government of Singapore) and Scottish Investment Bank (the investment arm of Scottish Enterprise) were both existing investors prior to the round.
The fresh capital will be used to further develop gigabit LiFi components and make them available in form factors ready for mobile device integration.
Previous funding
TriCapital, Scottish Enterprise and Par Equity led a £1.5m funding round for the company in 2013. The company then received £10m from an undisclosed investor in 2014 and another $2m in 2016.
In 2015, PureLifi received £1.5m from London & Scottish Investment Partners, Old College Capital and Scottish Investment Bank. Temasek led a £7m investment in 2016.
Company
PureLiFi develops LiFi technology, which enables internet connection through light, without the use of radio frequencies used by other technologies such as wifi and cellular. Established in 2012, the company is a spinout from the University of Edinburgh, where its research into LiFi communication has been in development since 2008.
